The Last Lightbearer
A downloadable game
A tale of a world where the hero is already too late to save it...
The Last Lightbearer tells the story of a world at it's end, prophesied to have been saved nearly three centuries ago by it's savior, the Lightbearer, who never appeared, allowing demons from an unknown world run rampant, leaving a path of destruction in their wake as corruption, an incurable plague, spreads across the earth.
In mankind's final bastion, Aegis, resides Stella, a strong willed fighter who sees herself as the one meant to be the world's savior, as, in her eyes, the destined Lightbearer was simply a coward who allowed the world to come to it's end, seeing them to be just as responsible as the demons for the state the world is in.
But as Stella becomes infected with the corruption, and in her final moments before it fully consumes her, she comes across a mysterious young girl who miraculously pushes back the corruption in her body and nurses her back to health. But before she can return the girl to Aegis, Stella finds her new companion has disappeared, and so she begins her quest to recover this girl and bring her to safety, seeing her as the key to mankind's survival, not realizing just who this girl is...
Not a typical RPG
Unlike many turn based RPGs, The Last Lightbearer does not have random encounters, levels, or gear. Instead, you, the player, must learn enemy patterns and tells to succeed. Each fight is carefully crafted with a specific mechanic in mind to test the player's ability to pay attention, and think ahead, as simply attempting to force one's way through will result in a quick demise. Every skill serves a purpose, and must be utilized.
By watching for these enemy tells, learning patterns, keeping track of statuses, and watching counters above the enemy (and likely a few retries as well), long, hard fought battles will become progressively easier, until victory is achieved.
But keep in mind that each fight is there to help prepare you for what is to come!
Combat in the early stages of the game are simple in order to introduce unique core mechanics to the game that the player will need to be aware of. But as the game progresses, combat will become more challenging, punishing, and certain patterns must be handled in specific ways in order to succeed.
But to those that know the patterns and what to expect, they may even find ways to take advantage of what's to come.
Be sure to check every new status as it is applied! Some may provide hints to specific mechanics, or even little hints of story and perspective...
If you do need more details on mechanics, or even hints, these are provided in-game. Hints are available at the start of specific encounters later on, and there are Glossary pages that go more in-depth with certain mechanics to aid you, should you need it.
Revival is not an option! If one character dies, the battle is lost. Use every skill wisely to assure no one falls!
However, losing a fight does not mean going through menus and walking all the way back to the fight! It will quickly restart after the battle ends, and there is even a retry item, should you feel the need to use it.
There are practice battles that can be accessed later on as well.
If battles prove to be too difficult, players will have access to Story Mode, which will outright skip the fight while giving a short overview of what would have transpired. The story will then continue from where the battle would have ended.
There is roughly 8 hours worth of playtime, when not using Story Mode.
Final Note
This game is a big learning project for me, as I wanted to make something on my own. The entire story, and all of the mechanics, were essentially learned and placed on the go. I wanted to challenge myself to see what I could do, while learning what I could at the same time, all while trying to make something unique, and this was the result.
I don't like using assets made by others, excluding ones I either make myself or purchase, so I only used what I had from base assets and dlc, some with a few minor modifications. Purchased Yanfly plugins were also used.
My intent is to just get started in projects such as this, and keep moving up and forward, but I need to build up my personal skills first.
Thank you for your time, and I hope you enjoy! Comments are always appreciated!

I simply cannot pass Leena. The fights are absurd, they just want you to play in one specific way and no other. With so limiting fights yet you have some fights that are impossible win until something is triggered, like holding on until a certain round but you don't know that and all you do is mindlessly try try and try. AND STORY MODE DOESN'T EVEN WORK!!! I couldn't even skip fights that were supposed to be skipable by story mode.
when testing the game out, it seems a good story... and it really does
have a great story, the author even torture the player to its limits
what they learn in battle.
as I beat the game in around 10 hours + 3-4 hours of losing battles,
I really enjoy the game with puzzles and story.
as you need to watch very carefully and use your healing, attack,
defense and corruption nicely as you might only be happen to
have 1 mistake or less in order to win the battle.
each battle is a tight one to win it, but it is one of the best
battle mechanics and hardest I ever did.
while there is no level/exp to earn, you keep the base you have.
as there is no def on players and enemies, but use a pattern to
follow closely which is used for winning or losing the battle!
I recommend everyone for a good story or test their battle skills
in this game as you never see it before :)
i had a blast playtesting this through its development and watching it grow and blossom into what is currently available. Looking forward to more projects from the Author.
